The Virginia Commonwealth University Center on Health Disparities (VCU CoHD) serves as a bridge to the community and as an advocate for action that promotes health improvement. Rather than focus on just one disease, the VCU CoHD uses a broad approach by advancing research that examines the many factors that cause health disparities. The research culminates in the development of best practices for the elimination of such disparities.
Since 2009, the VCU CoHD has initiated group action to learn the types of health issues that are important to the community and the resources that are needed to make a change. This action includes the following projects Mosby Partnership, Photovoice, and the Coalition for a Healthier Community (a collaborative effort with the Institute of Women’s Health).
