Funding and Goals

Virginia Commonwealth University is among the top 75 colleges and univesities in funded research in the country, with more than $70 million in research funding at the VCU Medical Center and more than $200 million a year in sponsored research funding as a whole.

The primary research goal of the Center is to conduct and support research focused on the identification and elimination of health disparities. A secondary goal is to is to establish translational research models to improve birth outcomes and to reduce infant mortality in the metro-Richmond area.

Strategies to Attain Goals

Priority 1: Develop initiatives to expand opportunities for VCU faculty interested in health disparities.

Priority 2: Promote and conduct population-based disparities research with a focus on Virginia.

Priority 3: Provide financial assistance, grant writing support and evaluative tools for VCU faculty interested in pursuing research opportunities that are related to the goals of the center.
