MARC

****UPDATE****
The VCU IMSD Undergraduate program has transitioned to an NIH MARC in June 2023! This is exciting news for VCU and will help us better support our amazing students! We are currently recruiting for the 2024-2025 Cohort.

Maximizing Access to Research Careers Program

The VCU Maximizing Access to Research Careers Program will provide undergraduate scholars with financial assistance and support for professional growth! VCU MARC will provide research training in the biomedical or behavioral sciences for individuals from groups traditionally underrepresented in biomedical research. MARC will support undergraduates with two years of undergraduate study remaining. Scholars will join the program in June and are involved in program activities during summer, fall and spring through their graduating semesters The cornerstone of the program is a long-term mentored research experience with VCU faculty members who are leaders in the fields of neuroscience, cancer biology, metabolic diseases, allergy and immunology, microbial pathogenesis, drug addiction or abuse, molecular genetics and others. MARC Scholars will have the opportunity to present their work at local, regional and national research meetings. In addition, MARC Scholars enroll in a series of courses and workshops that provide instruction in basic concepts in biomedical research, research ethics, and career development advice.

MARC Scholars will receive a stipend and up to 60% tuition. In addition, MARC scholars will have access to funds for travel to national conferences, and to summer research programs at other US institutions.
